Week 9: Should You Do Your Own Show?
Oftentimes, we are asked by clients for assistance in creating a radio (or television) show featuring themselves.
Having your own show can be a great promotional and marketing tool. However, in order for you to attract an audience on a consistent basis, there are several important factors to consider, including:
* Can you repeatedly put an interesting, unique and compelling show together that will stay fresh enough to entertain the same audience (while simultaneously building new audience additions)? In many cases, it makes more sense for you to do interviews with different media outlets using the same or similar material over and over again, than to have to “recreate the wheel” for each new show.
* Do you have the skill set to create a program structure that attracts and maintains listeners for viewers from a specific target demographic?
* Can you give people a strong reason to listen to or watch your program that will somehow enhance their quality of life (inform, educate, and entertain)?
* Do you possess sufficient resources to effectively market and promote the program, both on your own airwaves and elsewhere, in order to attract and then continue to build on that audience base?
